The Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK) and the Korea International Finance Institute (KIFI) launched a joint project to nurture college students from multicultural families into trade experts. The project, provided free of charge, is part of IBK's social contribution efforts aimed at enhancing diversity and equity in society.

“As Korea’s economy has developed centered on exports, it has gained a crucial position in global trade. There is a growing need for trade specialists, not only in commodities but also in service sectors such as finance, distribution, and telecommunications,” said Kim Sang-kyung, CEO of KIFI.

She pointed out that while Korea has been making efforts to nurture talents in finance and trade, multicultural families have been marginalized from such initiatives.

She said there will be a better future for students from multicultural families once they equip themselves with knowledge and expertise in trade.

“The population from multicultural households has exceeded 1 million, with the second generation of children from these families now coming of age. They are integral and valuable members of our society.”

She pointed out that they are bilingual, which give them special advantages in the trade sector.

“If they combine professionalism with their talents, it would be a win-win situation for both the country and the youths themselves. I hope they will reap the benefits of this program,” Kim said.

Upon completion of a 132-hour curriculum, participants will be eligible to receive the International Trade Specialist certification. Additionally, job consulting services and e-learning resources for e-trade will be provided. Graduates of the program will have the opportunity to intern at one of the major trading companies in the country.

There will be 30 seats for the program. The class will run from July 1 to Aug. 2, six hours a day. Those wishing to participate can submit application at KIFI website, www.ikifi.com.
